Vagabond VIZBIG Edition: 12 Volumes, ISBN-13s and Release Dates

VIZ lists twelve Vagabond VIZBIG Edition paperbacks, numbered Vol. 1 to Vol. 12, and each has its own ISBN-13. According to VIZ’s product pages, Vol. 1 came out on September 16, 2008 and Vol. 12 on April 21, 2015. The edition table above gives every ISBN-13; the table below adds each book’s release date and page count, so a used lot can be checked against both.

What VIZ says is inside

The only statement about contents on the VIZ pages this map cites is VIZ Shop’s description of Vol. 1, which opens with “Three volumes in one! A prestige treatment of Inoue’s epic samurai series with bonus content, color pages, storyboard samples and more!” (VIZ Shop). VIZ’s product pages for the twelve books, which you can reach from VIZ’s VIZBIG list, describe the story but do not say which original volumes any book gathers.

That is why each row here covers one unit, its own number. The calculator can tell you which of the twelve books you still lack. It cannot tell you where a book sits in the story or how it lines up with another Vagabond edition, because the publisher’s pages do not say.

Release dates and page counts

Vol. 12 followed Vol. 11 after a gap of more than two years (December 18, 2012 to April 21, 2015, on VIZ’s pages), so a listing that stops at Vol. 11 is not necessarily missing a book by accident.

The Definitive Edition is numbered separately

VIZ also lists Vagabond Definitive Edition hardcovers, with their own Vol. 1, Vol. 2 and so on. VIZ’s pages do not say how those books line up with these twelve, so the two editions are mapped on separate pages: see the Vagabond Definitive Edition page for its dates and a page-count comparison.

A quick check before you buy

A listing that says only “Vagabond Vol. 3” could be the VIZBIG paperback, a Definitive Edition hardcover or something else. Compare the ISBN-13 with the table, as the ISBN edition check explains. If you own VIZBIG 1–6 and 8–12, the only missing book is 7, and a second copy of any book does not fill it.
