Parasyte Manga: Full Color vs Paperback Collection, 8 Books Each

Kodansha’s Full Color and Paperback Collections are two complete eight-book runs, not two halves of one run. Book numbers repeat between them, which is why this page keeps them as separate units: Full Color 3 and Paperback 3 are different products with different ISBN-13s.

What each line is

The distributor’s description of the Paperback Collection says that “For the first time in more than a decade” it “pairs Hitoshi Iwaaki’s original, black-and-white art with a revised translation and updated interior and cover design,” and that it “features the translation, lettering, and size” of the Full Color hardcovers. The Full Color Collection is described as the series “in hardcover for the first time, with each page carefully colorized and a revised translation for 2022.” Both lines are listed at 5-3/4 by 8-3/16 inches.

Why same-numbered books are not matched

Full Color 5 is listed at 296 pages and Paperback 5 at 304; the last books differ too (280 and 272). The distributor’s pages give no table of which chapters each book holds, so owning Full Color 1–4 does not prove you hold the same story as Paperback 1–4. The calculator therefore treats the two lines as different units and never counts one as owning the other.

Mixing lines on one shelf

If you own Full Color 1–5, the next book in that line is Full Color 6. Switching to the Paperback Collection for the rest means checking the story boundary in your own copies before you buy; the box-set duplicate check shows the arithmetic. If you own all eight books of one line, the other line is a choice of art and format rather than a story gap, since each is described as complete.
