Tokyo Ghoul and Tokyo Ghoul:re: Two Separate Box Sets

The original Tokyo Ghoul box contains volumes 1–14; Tokyo Ghoul:re contains its own volumes 1–16. The repeated numbers belong to different series records. Owning original Tokyo Ghoul volume 1 does not count as owning Tokyo Ghoul:re volume 1.

Identify the box before counting

These identifiers and contents come from VIZ’s original Tokyo Ghoul set and VIZ’s Tokyo Ghoul:re set. The distinction does not require spoilers or a plot summary: read the full title, including “:re,” then confirm the ISBN.

Why the shelf has two records

A number without a series label is ambiguous. Imagine owning all fourteen original volumes plus :re volumes 1–3. Against the :re box, the overlap is :re 1–3 and the new coverage is :re 4–16, or thirteen volumes. The original fourteen do not enter that calculation.

In a second example, someone owns original volumes 1–10 and all of :re. Their original-series gap remains 11–14. Marking :re volumes 11–14 as owned cannot close it. This is the reason the original-series tool and :re tool keep separate local shelves.

What “complete” refers to

The word belongs to the named product and series range. It should not be expanded to promise every related publication or every book carrying the Tokyo Ghoul name. Posters and other named extras are outside the numbered story coverage.

If a retailer abbreviates a listing to “Tokyo Ghoul box,” the volume count can be a clue, but the exact title and ISBN are the more dependable identity check. Do not rely on a product photo alone: edition images can be small, reused or associated with another selected format. Use the publisher records above and then confirm the actual item offered.
