How Many My Hero Academia Box Sets Are There? Two: 1–20 and 21–42

VIZ lists two English My Hero Academia box sets: Box Set 1 (volumes 1–20) and Box Set 2 (volumes 21–42, listed for November 24, 2026). See what each repeats.

In this guide

VIZ lists two English My Hero Academia box sets. Box Set 1 holds volumes 1–20 and Box Set 2 holds volumes 21–42, “the final 22 volumes.” Together they cover all 42 numbered volumes. VIZ’s page for Box Set 2 was still taking pre-orders when we checked on October 29, 2026, with a listed release date of November 24, 2026. Release dates can move, so recheck VIZ before planning around it.

Amazon links in the table are paid affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. How affiliate links work. A link reading "Check … on Amazon" goes to a listing whose title matches the box and which showed a new copy in stock when we checked on October 29, 2026. A link reading "Search Amazon for …" opens a search for the ISBN-13, because no such listing appeared in our check (Box Set 2 showed only a pre-order).

Both counts follow from the ranges: 20 − 1 + 1 = 20 and 42 − 21 + 1 = 22. VIZ’s Box Set 1 page says “Collect the first 20 volumes,” and its Box Set 2 page says “Collect the final 22 volumes.” VIZ’s volume list runs from Vol. 1 to Vol. 42. Both boxes are in our My Hero Academia edition map.

What each box includes besides the books

VIZ describes the same two extras for both boxes: a full-color double-sided poster and an exclusive 48-page booklet. The booklets are described as collecting the bonus illustrations and author commentary printed on the covers of the matching Japanese volumes: “volume 1–20’s book covers” for Box Set 1 and “the covers of volumes 21–42” for Box Set 2. On that wording the two booklets cover different volumes, so owning one does not duplicate the other. The page does not say the booklets are numbered volumes, and neither changes the 42-volume count.

What each box adds to your shelf

The 30-volume row uses 30 − 21 + 1 = 10 repeats and 42 − 31 + 1 = 12 new volumes. If you already own every numbered volume, neither box adds story coverage; the poster, booklet and matching shelf are collecting preferences.

The line between the two boxes is also where a single-volume reader changes plan: After My Hero Academia Box Set 1: Start With Volume 21 walks through that 20 to 21 boundary.

Watch for bundles that are not VIZ box sets

An Amazon search for these titles also shows bundles of individual volumes assembled by third-party sellers, for example sets of 22 or 42 separate books. Those are not VIZ box sets, and a bundle does not come with the poster or booklet. Check that the title reads “Box Set 1” or “Box Set 2” and match the ISBN-13 above.

Checklist for a listing

  1. Match the ISBN-13: 9781974735990 for Box Set 1 and 9781974769346 for Box Set 2.
  2. Count the numbered volumes the listing promises: 20 for Box Set 1, 22 for Box Set 2.
  3. For a used Box Set 1, ask whether the poster and 48-page booklet are still included; VIZ describes what the box was sold with, not what a later owner kept.
  4. Treat a Box Set 2 listing before the release date as a pre-order, and check the date on VIZ’s page.
