Manga Box Sets as Gifts: A Holiday Edition Guide
Which documented English manga box sets, omnibuses and collector hardcovers make a clean gift, what each contains, and how to avoid duplicating a shelf.
The easiest manga box set to give is one that covers a whole numbered range, for someone who owns none of it. The hardest to give well is a middle box such as Bleach Box Set 2, or any set whose number looks like a volume number. Check what the recipient already owns before choosing; the lists below show what each edition contains so you can match it to a shelf.
This is desk research on the editions our series records already document. We have not handled or read any of these copies, and we do not rate story quality, binding or paper. We also do not quote prices, shipping times or stock, because they change; the shop listing is the place to check them.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. The Amazon links in the tables are paid affiliate links to the exact editions named; how they work. We publish an Amazon button only when the listing’s EAN list includes the edition’s ISBN-13 and the listing showed Amazon.com as the seller of a new copy when we checked on 19 October 2026. A row marked “No Amazon button” did not pass that check, which says nothing about whether the book exists or can be found elsewhere.
Quick picks by situation
| If the recipient… | A clean choice from the documented editions | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Wants one box with a defined range and no follow-up to track | Death Note Complete Box Set (12 volumes) or Demon Slayer Complete Box Set (23) | One purchase covers the whole numbered range of the box. Check the watch-outs for related books that are sold separately. |
| Wants to begin a long series | Box Set 1 of Naruto (volumes 1–27), One Piece (1–23) or Bleach (1–21) | A first box needs no prior volumes. Only the Naruto start has an Amazon button here. |
| Already owns a mid-series run | Compare the box’s volume range to their shelf first (worked examples below) | A box that starts at volume 22 or 28 leaves a gap for someone who stopped at volume 10. |
| Likes keepsake hardcovers | A Silent Voice Collector’s Edition 1 and 2, or Vinland Saga Deluxe 1 | Hardcover formats with their own numbering; read the watch-out column. |
| Wants a box from a series that continues | Chainsaw Man Box Set (1–11) | The box ends at volume 11; the next numbered book is 12. |
One-box sets
Each row below is a single box covering one documented numbered range. “Publisher-listed extras” are the items VIZ, Kodansha or the distributor lists beside the books; they are not extra story volumes.

Long-series boxes
These series are split across several boxes, or are the first box of a run that continues. Gift the box that matches the recipient’s next missing volume, not simply the one with the lowest or highest number. “Not mapped” means our record has not established the extras, which is different from the box having none.

Where a row says “No Amazon button”, check the series record for the publisher source and ISBN-13, then compare any shop listing with the ISBN before buying.
Keepsake formats
These editions bundle several original volumes, so a title number such as “Deluxe 1” or “Omnibus 1” is not a volume number. The story column uses the catalog’s story units, not spine numbers.
| Edition | Story covered | Publisher-listed extras | Gift watch-out | Where to check |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A Silent Voice Complete Collector’s Edition 1 ISBN-13 9781646512492 | Segments 1, 2, 3 and 4a (the first part of volume 4) | Color art and concept sketches; early story drafts; interviews | Covers the first part of the story; Collector’s Edition 2 finishes it. | Series record Check Collector’s Edition 1 on Amazon |
| A Silent Voice Complete Collector’s Edition 2 ISBN-13 9781646514069 | Segments 4b, 5, 6 and 7 | Color art and concept sketches; early story drafts; behind-the-scenes material | Starts inside volume 4, so it is the second book of a pair. | Series record Check Collector’s Edition 2 on Amazon |
| Vinland Saga Deluxe 1 ISBN-13 9781646519781 | Original volumes 1–3 | Not mapped | The first of eight Deluxe books (original volumes 1–24); spine numbers differ from regular hardcovers. | Series record Check Vinland Saga Deluxe 1 on Amazon |
| Noragami Omnibus 1 ISBN-13 9781646515554 | Stray God volumes 1–3 | Not mapped | The first of nine omnibuses (volumes 1–27). Stray Stories is outside this map. | Series record Check Noragami Omnibus 1 on Amazon |
| Akira 35th Anniversary Box Set ISBN-13 9781632364616 | Volumes 1–6 (hardcover) | Akira Club art book; pill-design patch | Reading direction and completeness are worth checking: see the Akira edition guide. | Series record No Amazon button |
Worked examples: does the box repeat a shelf?
The arithmetic uses the documented ranges above and counts each volume once.
| Recipient already owns | Gift idea | Overlap (already owned) | New volumes added |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bleach volumes 1–30 | Bleach Box Set 2 (22–48) | 22–30 = 9 volumes | 31–48 = 18 volumes |
| Bleach volumes 1–30 | Bleach Box Set 3 (49–74) | None | 49–74 = 26 volumes |
| Bleach volumes 1–21 | Bleach Box Set 1 (1–21) | 1–21 = 21 volumes | None: a pure duplicate |
| Naruto Box Set 1 only (1–27) | Naruto Box Set 2 (28–48) | None | 28–48 = 21 volumes |
| A Silent Voice paperbacks 1–4 | A Silent Voice Complete Series Box Set | Segments 1, 2, 3, 4a, 4b | 5, 6 and 7 |
| A Silent Voice paperbacks 1–4 | Collector’s Edition 2 (4b, 5–7) | 4b, the later part of volume 4 | 5, 6 and 7 |
| Dragon Ball box (1–16) | Dragon Ball Z Complete Box Set (1–26) | None: separate series record | All 26 Dragon Ball Z volumes |
Check the sums: for the first Bleach row, 9 + 18 = 27, the size of Box Set 2 (volumes 22–48). For the Naruto row, volumes 1–27 plus 28–48 reach 48 without a gap or repeat. For singles that are not in sequence, list every volume number and use the box-set duplicate check, which also finds editions that add missing story.
Five checks before wrapping it
- Ask for the shelf, not the title. Which volumes does the person own, and in which numbering? A bare “volume 12” can belong to several series; keep the series name attached.
- Read the box range, not the box number. Bleach Box Set 2 contains volumes 22–48. Naruto’s and One Piece’s box numbers work the same way.
- Keep spin-offs and sequels on their own lines. Tokyo Ghoul:re is not a Tokyo Ghoul volume, and Death Note’s guidebook is not volume 13. Guidebooks are not story volumes.
- Match the exact edition. Compare ISBN-13 against the listing before ordering. The ISBN edition check explains why a title match is not enough.
- Decide whether a box is worth it for someone who owns most of the run. Our box set versus singles worksheet compares the books still missing using totals you enter yourself, so it never relies on a price we publish.
What we did and did not check
The contents, ISBN-13s and extras above come from the publisher or authorized-distributor records cited on each series page; every mapped edition above was checked on 9 September 2026 except the two A Silent Voice collector hardcovers (15 October 2026), and the Amazon identities were checked on 19 October 2026. Our method explains how we handle extras and unknown contents.
We did not include Berserk Deluxe volumes, because the catalog holds no verified ISBN-13 for them, and we skipped Tokyo Ghoul’s original box because its Amazon listing did not pass the seller check. Age suitability is also outside this guide: check the publisher’s rating on the product page before giving a title to a young reader.
