Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z Box-Set Numbering
In the VIZ editions mapped here, Dragon Ball runs from 1–16 and Dragon Ball Z uses its own 1–26 numbering.
In the VIZ editions mapped here, Dragon Ball runs from 1–16 and Dragon Ball Z uses its own 1–26 numbering. Keep the series name attached to each number when entering what you own. A bare “volume 12” does not identify a unique book across these two sets.
The two English box identities
The VIZ Dragon Ball Complete Box Set is ISBN 9781974708710 and contains Dragon Ball volumes 1–16. The VIZ Dragon Ball Z Complete Box Set is ISBN 9781974708727 and contains Dragon Ball Z volumes 1–26. Their separately listed posters and booklets do not add story-volume units.
Both sets together contain 42 numbered story books in these editions, but entering an undifferentiated range “1–42” into either tool would lose the split. The Dragon Ball map and Dragon Ball Z map deliberately use different series identifiers.
Work through a partial collection
Suppose you own Dragon Ball 1–16 and Dragon Ball Z 1–9. The Z box would repeat Z 1–9 and add Z 10–26: nine overlapping and seventeen new volumes. Your sixteen Dragon Ball books do not reduce the Z box’s new-coverage count.
Conversely, owning all of Z does not fill a missing Dragon Ball volume. If your Dragon Ball shelf contains 1–12 and 14–16, volume 13 remains missing in that series regardless of which Z volumes you own.
Do not infer a map for a different edition
Other formats or numbering conventions require their own publisher contents statements. This page does not provide chapter-level correspondence or convert omnibus spine numbers into these units. If you own a collected edition absent from the catalog, check its published contents before selecting individual units.
The practical rule is simple: first identify the English product and its naming convention, then calculate coverage within that convention. A series label is part of the data, not decorative text. Keeping it attached to the number prevents a complete-looking result from hiding a real gap.
