A Silent Voice Collector's Edition Splits Volume 4
See why A Silent Voice's two collector hardcovers do not divide cleanly into original volumes 1–4 and 5–7, with a switching-format checklist.
Do not treat A Silent Voice Collector’s Edition 1 as original volumes 1–4 and Collector’s Edition 2 as 5–7. The changeover happens inside original volume 4. That matters if you want to finish a partial paperback collection using the second hardcover.
Kodansha describes Collector’s Edition 1 as the first half of the story. Its Collector’s Edition 2 record gives the more specific boundary: the second half of original volume 4 through the end of the series. The publisher’s general wording contains an inconsistent reference to the “first half” on that second page; the explicit volume-4 boundary is the useful detail, rather than a guessed whole-volume split.

The table is our deduction from the publisher’s stated boundary and the seven-volume original collection. It does not identify an exact chapter or page number for the split. We have not inspected both books page by page, and page numbers can include introductory or bonus material.
A reliable handover between formats
Write down the last chapter you have actually read, not just the spine number. Compare that with the contents page of the next format through a legitimate preview, a library copy or an actual book. Look for continuity between the last chapter you have and the first chapter you need. If there is an overlap, reading through it is less confusing than assuming the whole of volume 4 is already covered.
If you own singles 1–3, adding original volume 4 before the second collector hardcover is one way to avoid the missing portion. It also creates deliberate overlap within volume 4. Whether that is worth the extra purchase depends on your preference for the later hardcover; simply finishing in singles is another route to compare.
Why the calculator does not count half a volume
The current A Silent Voice tool tracks whole original volumes in the original box set. Do not mark original volume 4 as completely owned solely because you have Collector’s Edition 1. A whole-volume checkbox cannot represent a partly covered unit accurately.
The collector hardcovers also have additional material described by Kodansha. That is separate from whether the main story is complete.
